Lessons from Extraordinary People

Learn how high achievers maintain their focus on purpose. Discover the habits that keep their ‘why’ alive.

Mind Your Why is an ongoing research project exploring how exceptional people maintain a clear connection to the purpose that drives their lives.

Rather than focusing solely on what successful people have accomplished, we’re interested in how they sustain the mindset, habits, rituals, environments, and daily practices that keep their purpose alive over years—and often decades. Discovering your purpose is an event, but living from it is an ongoing practice.

We’ll study entrepreneurs, athletes, scientists, artists, educators, explorers, military leaders, philanthropists, and other high performers from many walks of life.

Our goal isn’t to place them on a pedestal.

It’s to identify the practical behaviors that anyone can adopt.

What You’ll Find in Each “Research Subjects” Profile

Each profile asks the same questions:

  • What appears to be this person’s “why”?
  • How did they discover it?
  • What habits help them stay connected to it?
  • What routines, reminders, or rituals reinforce it?
  • How do they recover when they lose focus?
  • What lessons can we apply in our own lives?

Over time, these individual stories will become something much bigger.

Patterns.

Frameworks.

Evidence-based insights into what I’m calling Why Maintenance—the practice of intentionally keeping your purpose visible, meaningful, and actionable throughout everyday life.

You don’t lose your why because it disappeared. You lose it because life slowly buries it under stress, distractions, responsibilities, and routine. The people who accomplish extraordinary things may not have stronger purposes than everyone else—they may simply have better systems for bringing those purposes back into focus.
